The Holy City of Makkah is the most sacred and respectable
place on earth for not only the Muslims but for all. It is also the Qibla which
means Muslims from all over the world offer their prayers five times a day in
this direction. The world’s famous and largest Mosque, Masjid Al-Haram is also
situated in the city of Makkah which own a capacity of accommodating millions
of Muslims Pilgrims during Hajj. Thousands of Muslims from every nook and
corner of the world visit the Holy cities of Makkah and Medina for Hajj and
Umrah in this Holy City annually.
Makkah is also the birth place of our dearly Prophet Hazrat
Muhammad (PBUH). It is the same city where Allah's apostle (PBUH) spent several
years of his life and also received his first divine revelation from Allah
Almighty.
However the religious implication of Makkah was recognized
far before the time of Holy Prophet (PBUH). It is the place where Hazrat
Ibrahim (AS) left his wife Hazrat Hajrah (AS) along with his infant son Hazart
Ismail (AS). Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) upon receiving the indication from Allah and
later the miraculous incident of the holy water of Zam-zam occurred. Makkah is
the consecrated city where Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) commenced the foundation to
build the house of Allah with the help of his son.
Makkah and Medina are the only cities in the whole world that
are not allowed for any non-Muslim’s entry. Non-Believers are prohibited in Makkah
and Medina. The intention behind this is to protect the sanctity of these
cities. It is mentioned in Quran as: "Oh you who believe! Truly the
idolaters are unclean; so let them not, after this year, approach the Sacred
Mosque... " (9:28)
The sanctity of Makkah has been continuing from the time
immemorial. The Quran only added to its ancient glory and respect. Allah says:
"For me I have commanded to serve the Lord of this City,
Him, Who has sanctified it and to whom (belong) all things; and I am commanded
to be one of those who bow in Islam to Allah's Will." (An-Namal 27:91)
